India Family Business Consulting

Succession Planning, Corporate Finance & Financial Literacy

About

CA Sunil Gandhi

Consulting Indian India’s entrepreneurs since 1988.

Some people explain things. Others help you see them differently. For over three decades, I have worked at the intersection of behavioural economics, family business advisory, and storytelling, believing firmly that the gap between a good decision and a poor one is rarely about intelligence. It is about clarity.

I consult with Indian family business founders on one of the most emotionally charged transitions in any enterprise: succession. The moment when a founder must decide what happens next. Who leads. What is passed on? What is let go? I help founders navigate that terrain not just with frameworks, but with honesty about the human dynamics at play.

Succession is not a legal event. It is a family conversation that was never had early enough.

My work as a writer has taken me into film, most recently as a writer on Uunchai, the Sooraj Barjatya film that reminded Indian cinema what quiet dignity looks like on screen. That experience deepened something I already believed: that values-driven storytelling changes people more durably than data ever can.

Indian Startups, SMEs & Financial Literacy: Business Finance Basics Entrepreneurs Must Know

With India’s bank NPAs burgeoning and financial literacy among entrepreneurs alarmingly low, this handbook distills 30 years of hands-on experience with SME and startup founders into short, easy-to-read chapters. It is the go-to reference every entrepreneur should keep within arm’s reach — and the one every bank and VC should gift their borrowers and investee founders.

A clear, actionable guide for family business owners to plan succession, navigate transitions, and reclaim life beyond the business. This is not just a book about succession and exit — it is a wake-up call to start living wisely, with clarity and purpose. Endorsed by India’s top business leaders.

What I work on

My consulting practice focuses on Indian family businesses navigating generational transitions. I work with founders who have built something real and want to have a smooth succession, without losing the relationships that matter most in the process.

I also advise Indian SMEs and startups on financial literacy, fundraising advisory, not spreadsheets, but the mental models that determine whether an entrepreneur survives their first crisis or compounds quietly into something lasting. Legacy, in my view, is not what you leave behind. It is what you build into the people around you.
